Student goals 2023: Did it work?

Dear students,

When you look back to 2023, you'll know that each of you has come far from where you began. Progress, by ways of determination, hard-work, smart-work, luck or by chance, is progress nonetheless.

Our system of Goals began in 2022. It has served as a motivation for all the students, no doubt. More importantly, it has furthered my motivation and dedication towards teaching. I've always taken my craft more seriously than general because, at EOD, this is all I know and excel at. Undistracted, diligent and consistent. Nothing can replace teaching Music. Not even my Music for the glamourous film industry. Hence, the student's goals are my goals.

Few stats regarding the 2023 goal completion rates before we delve further.

Average Goal Completion Rate Overall: 68%

Average Goal Completion Rate- Group Offline classes: 60%

Average Goal Completion Rate- Group Online classes: 74%

Average Goal Completion Rate- Private classes: 81%

Here are a few students I want to thank. Now, let us take names in reverse alphabetical orders because Rahul starts with an R, and I was always towards the last for the fun stuff during my school days:D

Firstly, let us take a bow to the unhinged!

Namrakant and Pradhyun.

Both of you have achieved the daunting 100% goal completion for 2023. I have seen the dedication you have towards your musical studies and am thoroughly impressed. Your efforts are brilliant, no doubt. More importantly, your efforts are a motivation for myself, and others. My virtual tambourine applause is surely not enough. Exceptional work!

Secondly, the brilliants who almost reached the finish line!

You have all shown tremendous grit this year. You have swiftly moved through your goals and almost made it. So we'll say you touched the finish line. The shortfall was probably from my side, so do excuse. Till the last week of 2023, I was troubling all of you with extended and extra classes. Thanks much for cooperating!

Thirdly, special mentions!

Thank you so much for attending all our showreels. You are the reason these were a success. To take the stage itself is very brave. To do that and to enthral a musical audience? That's mighty!

Dear students,

Fear not, for numbers are just that. There's a trick to feeling fulfilled with your goals. Do not compare your achievements with one another. Instead, draw comparisons between the 2022 you and the 2023 you. If you're proud of that comparison, all is well. If not, I'm always here to help you. If I were to compare my musical skills to every exceptionally gifted 4-year-old, I'd not feel like an expert at all. I'm proud to have exceptional learners at Arvi School of Music. I don't teach many students. With smaller numbers, I can connect with you all and actually contribute.

We'll look now towards a new year. You'll all receive a fresh set of goals for 2024. I hope you are all excited for the year to come. Trust me, a few decades from now, you'll all be more than happy for the musical education you've received. You'll all be thankful to your parents (or yourselves) for the opportunity to explore Music. All the best!  Your Teacher and pal, Rahul Raghavan
